Benefits Of Probiotics - September 25th, 2009

Yogurt has a reputation for being a life enhancing and life extending food. Though no one’s ever proved it can help you live to age 100, there is plenty of evidence that it can help make your years through life, healthy ones.  A traditional cure for vaginal yeast infections has apparently been studied and validated.  The lactobacillus acidophilus in yougurt have been shown to help prevent and treat gastrointestinal and urinary tract infections. A friend of mine was telling me that yogurt has been known to strengthen the immune system. And that it can help with diarrhea, help prevent and heal ulcers, add prevent osteoporosis.

Plain, low-fat yogurt is a great source of calcium; one cup contains about 40 percent of the RDA. We all know that calcium is essential in helping prevent osteoporosis, the bone-weakening disease that afflicts many older women in particular. If you are unable to digest milk, eating yogurt will help you get the calcium you need. The live Lactobacillus acidophilus cultures in yogurt are mostly responsible for the power of yogurt to help prevent infection.
